Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Thanks to modern science, doctors can view a damaged knee joint – and diagnose and treat the problem – without having to make a large incision in the patient’s skin and other soft tissue. In this minimally invasive surgical procedure known as Arthroscopic knee Surgery, your surgeon inserts a small camera – called an arthroscope – into the affected knee joint. The arthroscope then displays pictures on a video monitor that your surgeon uses to guide miniature surgical instruments in the area to repair the injury.

Knee Arthroscopy in Raleigh, Apex & Brier Creek, NC

Since arthroscopic knee surgery uses very small incisions, it results in less pain and less joint stiffness than in a traditional, open surgery. Also, it usually shortens recovery time.

Your doctor will only recommend knee Arthrosocpy if you have a painful condition that doesn’t respond to nonsurgical treatment such as rest, physical therapy, medication, or anti-inflammatory injections. It can help relieve the painful symptoms associated with problems that damage the cartilage surfaces and other soft tissues that surround the joint.

Typical arthroscopic procedures for the knee include:

  • The removal or repair of a torn meniscus (cartilage)
  • The reconstruction of a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
  • The removal of inflamed tissue or loose bone or cartilage fragments
  • The treatment of kneecap problems
  • The trimming of damaged cartilage
